Arm Warmers on the Cheap

The last race I ran here in Austin was The Run for The Water 10 miler.  It was one of the first fairly cold mornings of the season with a low of around 35-40 degrees. (Which to some of you is balmy, but here after a humid hot summer, 35-40 feels pretty cold!)  My "outfit" for Luke's consists of a racerback tank, and there was just no way I was going to run in a tank, but I didn't want to run with a jacket either.

Now, I am a cheap person, I will admit it.  I love getting deals, buying used, etc...and there was no way I was going to put $50.00 out on a pair of arm warmers.
(Though these do look SUPER cool!!)

So I looked online and found a great cheap alternative!
Head down to your local Walgreens, Rite Aid, or similar store and you will find these socks above.  Compression Socks....They are about 8.00.  Get the smallest one's if you are a lady with smaller arms, so they fit tight and don't slip down.  Cut a straight line right at the place the socks start to curve around at the bottom where your feet go.  And VOILA!!

(Let's not talk about my face in this pic, let's focus on my arms please!)

They didn't slip down, they were comfortable and really kept me warm.  PLUS, they were super cheap, and if they did get too warm in the middle of the race, I wouldn't have minded taking them off and tossing them.

Now there is your crafting/cheapy/pinterestry lesson for today....Go out and run some miles!  And have a great weekend!!!

  1. Great idea! I'm cheap too and couldn't justify spending a bunch on arm warmers!

  4. Wow, what a great idea! I have some Sugoi arm warmers I picked up on Amazon for maybe $20-30. They aren't compression, though.
