Maudie's Moonlight 5K Recap or Lack Thereof

This was an odd race for me.  Since I am fairly new to racing, this was my first night race.  It started at 8p.  I am usually winding down from my day and in bed by 9pm....so this was late for me.

We got down there about 7p after battling downtown traffic.  The race start was at the Mopac bridge trail head which is a popular place on a weeknight even without a race going on.  There were a lot of people down there just doing their usual weekday runs.

Sadly this is the only pic we got of the whole race, and it's not a very good one....

It was about 90 degrees and the humidity was through the roof.  We warmed up with an easy mile and did some stretching, used the porta potties a few times, and before we knew it, it was race time.

It was a smooth start and we did the first mile at about a 7:14 pace.  I felt strong and though it was humid and I was already sweating buckets, I felt like I could hold on to that pace for the duration.  At about 1.5 miles in, Jessica started struggling.  I chose to stay with her and encourage her.  I think it was a mixture of heat and humidity and race nerves.  We finished with a time of 25:12.  No Pr's here, but it's always nice to run with a good friend!

Jessica really wanted to get under 25, and was really disappointed...so here is her 5K redemption, which we will be doing on Saturday morning!
It's put on by the local Georgetown running club, and it's $1.00 to race it.  How cool is that?

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Good luck to Erin who is running/biking/swimming the Pfulgerville triathlon this weekend!

And Happy Father's Day to all you dad's out there!

  1. Thanks for the good luck wishes! Have fun at Vern's! I bet Jessica will crush a sub-25!

And, nice work at Maudie's. It's hard to race after a full dya of work/eating/etc, and the crazy heat/humidity only makes it harder.
