Best Laid Plans

So I am between races right now and kind of on the search for what's next.

I have the TX half marathon in Irving Texas on 2/3/2013 and that's really the only race I have on the "books" and paid for.

Here are some races I am looking at.....

This is kind of a landmark race here in Austin, and hailed as a downhill course.
Looks like a quad killer to me...but hey downhill is better than uphill!!

The other race I am looking in to is the Bandera Trail Race.  I am contemplating the 15K option. I haven't run much on trails so I don't know how well I would do.  Team Luke's might be doing this one as a group so I might try it.  It's on 1/13 though which means I would have to kick my training in high gear like YESTERDAY!  We will see if I can convince Sean to let me run this one!

We need some more 10k's around here that are somewhat affordable.  And I am proposing that there should be more 10 mile runs too!

Any fun races you are planning for?  I really want to do a full marathon...just don't know if this body I have would hold up through training!

Less is more or more or less

Lately I feel like my life is on fast forward.  The good moments are slipping by so fast....that sometimes it seems like they weren't really ever there to begin with.

I took last week off for the Thanksgiving holiday.  It was really nice, though of course I felt like I didn't get much done.  I got to pick up Phoenix every day early from school, and I got in most of my workouts.  I hung the Christmas lights....We got the Xmas tree up...I did TONS of laundry....I went grocery shopping....I got to go to my favorite thrift store...we celebrated Thanksgiving with great friends....but it really felt like I didn't get a breath, not even one.

Now it's back to work...back to the routine and I am feeling slightly let down at the moment.  It's the holidays and it's a busy time...but I miss my family in California, and I just feel dissatisfied.

Running seems to be the only time when time slows down a little.  Even the harder runs I have been having lately make me feel calm inside and give me some relief from this feeling.  I don't think I am alone in feeling that sometimes running is all I have.  The only thing really keeping me going and sane. When I look at that feeling from the viewpoint of my sanity I am ok with it...but when I look at it in the big picture I feel that it's pretty pathetic of me.

Time for a change I guess.  But what I am finding is that the older I get the harder change is.  The more unlikely I am to make a change.

Now you might read this and say I am suffering from depression, but this feels different.  It feels like somewhere I have been before, but I am not necessarily depressed....I just need to tell the people who came up with the less is more running plan, that my body loves it...but my mind needs at least one more day to pound my feelings out on the pavement.

Update

We put Xmas lights on the house a little early.
(Pardon all the junk on our driveway)
We went down to F1 Fan Fest here in Austin
Phene played hipster with Willie Nelson

 Cool cars
Yep, I am walking a chiuahua
 Phene jumped high
We had a picnic in the grass
I found a new wine I really like
Phene wrote her name for the first time by herself!
 I got a new Vacuum
I found this perfect coffee cappuccino maker at goodwill, it makes so much foam...I love foam in my coffee!

I have all week off which has been great so far!!
I'm doing a 5 mile run with Sean and some friends on Thanksgiving morning and then I am cooking...we will see how that goes!
I hope you all have a great holiday weekend!!!

I need a checklist

It never fails that at least once a week, sometimes more, I forget to bring something in my after workout bag.  Most of the time it's underwear or socks, and hey, I can deal with that.  Once I forgot my bra and had to hand wash it and wear a wet bra all day.

But today, was the day....I forgot pants.  Yep, no pants....so I had to hand wash my pants in the sink here at work and wring them dry as best I could.  Good times!  Nothing like wearing wet pants!
And no, I am not wearing a cup, nor do I have a...penis.  It's mud.

Real World Problems

So my knee area was just bugging me too much yesterday.  I got in to get an Xray and thankfully my knee will get me through a few more runs, but as for my IT band...ha! Funny funny IT band.  Looks like we are going to get to know each other very well in the next few days/weeks/months my long stretched out little friend!

Yes my readers another injury loving post...blah blah blah...oh and blah blah, hips...blah blah....plantar.....blah blah...pain....blah blah blah! Oh and arthritis...blah blah blah....

Monday Bullet Post

*I took a whole week off from running last week after my 10 mile race last Sunday.  I don't feel like I got a huge benefit from not running.  The same old aches are there. (feet, hips, etc..)  I am hoping it has done some unknown good and I will see the results soon....Something new popped up too!  I am having a meniscus?  IT? weird stiffness thing.  It doesn't hurt, just feels really stuff and there is an almost popping feeling when I squat.  I might go and get an Xray/MRI or something.  It just doesn't feel right, and it's not going away with rolling.

*Yesterday I went down to Austin for a run and breakfast with the Luke's crew.  We ran 4 miles through the city streets of Austin and up around the capitol building.  It was nice running in a new area, and just nice to be on my feet running again.  Wish I had some pics....but I don't.  Gosh this post just gets more and more exciting!

*I have been trolling ebay/craigslist for a lot of Barbie clothes.  Phene loves dressing her barbies and our clothes are ripped and our dogs have eaten more than a few things.  While I was looking this morning I found this gem below.  This is so disturbing...in so many ways.

*This Christmas we have decided that instead of buying a bunch of presents the kids play with for like 2 minutes, we are going to go somewhere...so far we are thinking of going to Sea World.  Sea World isn't far from here in San Antonio, so we could get a hotel and spend the day down there.  I am sure the kids will enjoy it.  And it's not like they will be present-less...the grandparents and family always send a lot of presents.

That's all I have for today.....hope you all have a great week!

Coming up...I know you can't wait to see what I post about next....my race plans for Saturday!

Observations, Musings, and Such

*When did Barbie get so SKINNY?  I mean really this looks ridiculous (And yes, I traded this doll for Phene's Halloween candy...I am indeed the candy nazi)

*Halloween was fun....went trick or treating for about an hour...saw Erin's dogs dressed up (Which was SUPER cute!)...The kids got tons of candy!  And the Belle wig was the highlight of my evening...really the cutest part of Phene's costume!

*I am taking a week off from running....0 miles this week is my plan.  I have been going to Dane's and I did yoga yesterday.  Funny thing...and I mean in a "Isn't it ironic" type of funny....I am having some weird pulling/creaking in my IT band/knee area.  Seriously it's Murphy's Law.  I can only chuckle to myself about it because otherwise I would cry.

*American Horror Story completely jumped the shark! (Damn it! The first season was so good!))

*Here is where I have been all week. (If you can't open the link it's The Lululemon trading post on facebook)  Very cool stuff, and I think trading is a great idea!!

I hope everyone has a great weekend!!!
