Weekend Recap Three Days Too Late

My weekend recap, better late than never!

*Friday I took a 1/2 day and went to Phene's school for their end of year picnic.  They let all the smaller kids play at the "big" kids playground so she was pretty excited.  Plus they had cupcakes which makes every kid happy!
*Friday night our RunTex Georgetown group met up for happy hour at a local cafe.  We had a pretty good showing.  And Jessica came up from Austin which was nice.  We had a lot of good conversation and lots, probably too much good beer.
We sat out in this cafes patio area.  Which was nice, because it was shaded and there was a good breeze. We were the only people out there until this guy walks out with a purse.  I am not talking about a fanny pack, I am talking about a large purse, almost like a bowling bag purse.  He sits down and orders a beer and opens up his purse and takes a small kitten out.  Now this may not sound creepy, but it was...Here is this guy, by himself, at happy hour, with a kitten in a purse.  By the time I got the idea to take a pic the kitten was on the ground and someone had sat down with him.  See the tan purse?  Guess it was one of those moments you had to see in person.
*Saturday morning I met Jessica at the Wilco Park for a 5 mile run.  A few people from our run group run out in this area, and we wanted to try something new.  It was an ok route.  Part of it was a mulch trail which was nice, but to get the miles in you kind of had to loop around, which I didn't like.  I don't think we will be running this route again anytime soon.  (I need to start taking pics of our runs, I just hate carrying my cell phone around with me!

Saturday afternoon we went to the Blue Hole for an afternoon of swimming.

*Sunday we went swimming again, and did stuff around the house

*Monday Jessica and I met up again for a run in Georgetown.  Instead of our normal out and back in the park, we decided to tackle the outer loop hill.  It's about a 2.5 mile run to get to it, and it's about 1/4 of a mile long.  But it's one of those hills that goes on and on and gets really a lot steeper at the end. (Again , wish I had some pics).  We were planning on about 5 miles again but ended up with 6.2.  It was a hard run and really humid, but I was happy that I got two sort of longish runs in on the weekend.

So that was my Memorial Day Weekend.

My workout plans this week:
Monday - 6.2 mile run
Tuesday - Danes Upper Body Fusion (done)
Wed - Dane's Core Fusion + 2 mile run (done)
Thursday - Run Group? or Danes Lower Body Fusion + 2 Mile Run
Friday - Danes Upper Body Fusion
Saturday - 5 Mile Run with Jessica @ Town Lake

My mileage is increasing and I do have to say that I have been getting some tightness in my calves again.  I have started rolling out more which I hope helps.  Per my Runner's World mileage tracker I did 18 miles last week.  I really would like to step it up to 20 and hold that for a month and see how it goes.  I think that this time around if I want the miles I will need to work on it on the back end with roll outs, stretching, and I will need to fit that one day of yoga in.

Hope everyone's week is going well.

I have some exciting news on the race front which I will share with you later this week!

Early Retirement, Races, Plans, Etc...

The week has gone really well so far, though I have to say I am not quite in the swing of waking up early again.

Here are my workouts completed this week and plans for weekend:
Monday - Dane's Lower Body Fusion +1.9 mile run (DONE)
Tuesday - Run Tex Group 5 miles (DONE)
Wednesday - Dane's Core Fusion +.37 miles in workout (DONE)
Thursday - Dane's Lower Body Fusion + 2 Miles (DONE)
Friday - Much needed rest
Saturday - 5 mile run with Jessica
Sunday - ?

I should be up to 15 miles this week, which was exactly my plan.  I would like to increase my miles by one mile every week until I am up to 20 miles a week again.  I have 3 Races on my calendat that I need to start training for.

This will be more of a fun run, as it is at night...and well I hope there is a margarita involved!

Toughest 10K in Texas July
This is a small town race that I ran last year in 45:43 (my PR in a 10K)
I am hoping to set a new record this year

This one is August 12th.....so like the title says it will be hot!!  I will be doing the 1/2 in this race.

I am excited to be making some plans to run some longer distance races later this year.  My dear dear friend Wilma and I have been talking about maybe meeting up later in the year for a 1/2 and 10K. Maybe this one in October?  This would be a fun one, since Wilma is from New Orleans, and Sean and I can make it a mini-vacation :)

Or my friend Erin is running this race...would love to join her, just have to figure out how to get the $ for airfare, etc...

My dream race this year, which I won't be able to afford is....

Not only would this be a fun race because it's a Lululemon race and you get some special edition shorts...it's in Canada!  Perhaps I can start saving for 2013?

I am on the lookout for perhaps a fall or winter marathon or 1/2....just depends if my body cooperates!

Speaking of body cooperating :(
Cooter is still limping....I got him the wax/cream for his paws which I have been using...he has no cracks...so I don't know what it is at this point.  For the first mile of any of our runs he is fine, but after that he is limping. His toenails look a little long, so I am going to go get them cut today or tomorrow, and maybe give him a few days off.  I have really been enjoying running with him, and I will be sad if he has to take an early retirement so soon in his runnign career!

Have a good Thursday all!!!

Jamaica

View from the plane flying in to Montego Bay.  We got to fly first class all the way which was NICE! (Thank you Amy!!)
Here is our room.  It was small and had paper thin walls, but it was clean and had air conditioning!
This is a pic of the view from our hotel's beach area close to sunset time.
This is looking out down the beach where I ran every morning.
I mean who could complain about running here??

Our hotel's swimming/beach area.  The water was the most pretty blue color!
I didn't drink a bunch, but I sure enjoyed Red Stripe's which I had never had before!

Our First "tour" to the Blue Hole & Rick's
Our hotel was offering a cheap "tour" to Blue Hole and then to the infamous Rick's after for $20.00.  Since we didn't have anything planned that day we decided to go.  It was about an hour drive up in the mountains/boondocks up to this Blue Hole attraction.  So, the Blue Hole itself was really pretty.  Just an opening in the ground that you can jump in to.  The water is supposedly very cool and refreshing.  We opted not to jump in as they wanted $10 each.  We just couldn't justify it since we both weren't too eager to jump in any way. It was a weird place.  There were about 10 men just hanging out there getting drunk and stoned listening to really loud Justin Beiber music.  We stayed there for about an hour and a half and watched people jump in and just tried to avoid the creepy old Jamaican guy that fell in love with me.  Bottom line...creepy guys, lots of pot, and Justin Beiber...OH and the mosquitoes!!!

2nd Tour to YS Falls and Pelican Bar
(courtesy of Juju Tours)
I don't even know where to begin on this amazing day.  I had done some research on tour companies before going to Jamaica and found Juju Tours.  They were excellent!  It was just Amy and I on a private tour for most the day.  George our tour guide was a local Jamaican and super knowledgeable and friendly!  YS Falls was AMAZING and one of the most beautiful places I have ever been.  And the Pelican Bar is this bar built out in the ocean off shore.  It too was very unique and pretty.  We ate at local restaurants, learned about Jamaican culture, and got to see a lot of the Jamaican countryside.  It was a perfect day!

This is our tour guide as well as personal picture taker George
We went and ate some local food

Pelican Bar
We got on a small boat in a river mouth to head out to the infamous Pelican Bar.  A bar out to sea on a sand bar.
This is the first thing we encountered....

Typical Tourists :)

Like I said it was a GREAT relaxing fun filled day.
If you ever go to Jamaica, please look up Juju Tours...they are the best!

Our last day was spent just like this....

I read 2 books.
Yep, I joined the Shades of Grey bandwagon...the first book was pretty good, hard to put down.
And I read Amanda Beard's biography which was also a great read!
(Thank you Erin :)

I was so worried about not having the motivation to get up early and exercise.  But I guess that was one of the benefits of travelling with my pregnant friend...no late nights drinking.  We were literally in bed by 9 each night.  Which was perfect, because it made it easy to wake up at dawn each morning and go running!  The beaches were empty and the weather was cool and perfect...Each morning I would have local dogs join me on my run.  It was so cool.  They would run with me the whole time right by my side.  They were so friendly and sweet.  My morning runs, alone on the beach were the favorite part of my whole trip.  Plus I had zero pain, I am assuming from the low impact of the sand. I would get finished with my run, take off my shoes and immediately get in the water and float around.  It was SO relaxing!  If only I could run on the beach every morning!

Here are some pics of my running partners.  One day the brown dog ran 4 miles with me and curled up under my beach chair for the remainder of the day.  As you can see they weren't shy about wanting to be pet and enjoying it.  In typical tourist fashion I SO wanted to bring one of them home!

What an amazing vacation I was provided!  Thank you Amy, I won't soon be forgetting our days in Jamaica, and your smiling pregnant face!

Things I am loving today, and things I am hating today

* I am loving that I am getting my studio crops from Lululemon today!  Thank you husband for bday present!
*I am hating packing....I don't know what to bring, what not to bring, what I will need, what I won't need....skirts?  dresses?  shorts?  tennis shoes?  sandals? ballet flats?  How many shoes?  how many socks?  towel?  how many books? how many hats?  how much cash?  I will be glad when I check my bag and am no longer worried about it.

*I am loving My Fit Foods!  We got some buy one get one meal free cards, so we have had this for lunch twice now.  The first time I had a great salad with shrimp
It was SO good! And really filling!  Yesterday I had the Lean Ground Turkey with Rice...another really good dish!

If we didn't have the coupons, it might get pretty expensive at about $9 a meal, but I guess that's pretty comparable to a fast food lunch somewhere.

*I am hating that I still have a lot to do before leaving tomorrow morning. Phene has her spring program tonight at 7pm so I just know that from the time I leave work, until my head hits the pillows it's going to be NON stop!

*I am also hating that I skipped working out this morning.  I ran 3 miles Monday, 5 miles on Tuesday, and 2 yesterday, as well as working out at Dane's both Monday and yesterday....I know I needed a break day because I am feeling a little worn down.  When the alarm went off this morning at 4:40a, I went back to bed.  Here's to hoping I run while in Jamaica!

*I am really loving that I get to see and spend some much needed time with my best friend Amy!

Alright, that's all I have...until next week.................................

I have discovered Instagram!

Week Plans

Sunday-Rest
Monday-Dane's Lower Body & 3 miles (done)
Tuesday-Dane's Upper Body & 2 miles
Wednesday-Dane's Core & 2-3 miles
Thursday-Dane's Lower Body & 2 miles
Friday-JAMAICA
Saturday-Mojitos, laying in the sun

I had a LAZY weekend!  Saturday I did P90x Yoga and Sunday I took a complete rest day.  It was hotter than hell and super humid, which was the only downside.  I guess summer is here, and my only question is...will our air conditioner make it through the summer....I am crossing my fingers it will!!!!

Saturday also we redid the planter in front of our house.  It was nice to finally accomplish something outside in our yard.  I am just hoping that the plants grow, and we can get it look somewhat decent again.  The drought/heat last summer really ruined our yard last year.  Even though we are already on water use restrictions, I am going to be more pro-active this year about at least watering everything a few days a week even if it's only for a couple minutes.
As you can see Phene helped water.

Sunday we went to a potluck at my gym.  It was ok...I don't really talk to people too much there since I am mostly working out.  So, I didn't really know that many people.  Plus, I am socially awkward as it is.  I am glad I went and showed my face though.  As I do like the gym and the trainers and owner and want to support it as much as I can.

Short week at work this week....Friday morning I leave for Jamaica!  I still can't believe I am actually taking a vacation!  I am going to try and get as many workouts in this week as I can before I leave, because who knows if I will get in any workouts while I am gone.

I hope you all have a great week!
